Thursday saw small craft advisories flying once again, but several boats were able to get out.
Julie at Lewes Harbour Marina said some boats were able to fish, but the only report she had when I called was from the Katydid who caught some tog. She had not seen any rockfish on the cleaning table all day.
John at Old Inlet Bait and Tackle told us the beach and the inlet have been very quiet. A few dog sharks from the beach and the occasional short tog from the inlet. He knew of one boat that ran out of Lewes and worked north past Cape May without catching or seeing any sign of a rockfish. This is very disappointing news.
I still have not given up on the rockfish, but if we don’t see anything over the weekend I will be packing my surf fishing stuff up for the winter. The small coastal storm we are supposed to have on Saturday will bring in a northeast wind and if that doesn’t draw the rockfish back inside the Three-Mile-Limit I am afraid the season will be a one-day event and that day was last Monday.
This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report.
