Friday was a perfect day to catch rockfish, but unfortunately, no one told the fish.
I had one report of a successful rockfish trip and that was from Lewes Harbour Marina. Bob Fitzwater brought in a 43.5-pound striper to take over first place in the Lewes Harbour Marina striped bass contest. No details on where or how he caught the big rockfish.
Old Inlet Bait and Tackle told us they had not seen a fish all day. Hook ‘em and Cook ‘em saw one tog caught out of the inlet. They told me boats ran north and south out of Indian River Inlet and no one saw so much as a bird let alone a rockfish.
Small craft advisories have been posted for the remainder of the weekend so it will be sometime next week before anyone has a chance to get back out on the water. I wish I could be more positive about the rockfish, but I must admit if they didn’t catch them during perfect weather conditions on Friday chances are pretty slim they will be around next week.
