WGMD Fishing Report 4-21-18

Friday saw lots of sunshine along with some pretty strong winds.  It looks like the wind will begin to lie down on Saturday, and Sunday will be the best day of the weekend.

I received a phone call from Bob Baker on Thursday and he had another good report from the Eastern Shore of Virginia.  One party of three anglers had their 12-fish limit and a hook and line commercial fisherman boxed 40 flounder over 15 inches.  The minimum size for commercial fishermen is 14 inches, but most hook and liners only keep flounder over 15 inches.

The water temperature at the Lightship Buoy is 45.9 degrees and at Lewes it is 49.5.  The local TV stations have water temperatures that seldom match the ones I get from NOAA.  I have no idea where theirs come from, but be aware of the discrepancy.

I still believe there is a chance for some flounder to be caught out of the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal, Broadkill River and Indian River Bay.  I would begin fishing the shallow areas about an hour before high tide and stay there until low tide.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report.
