WGMD Fishing Report 5-01-18

Matt Nein of Lancaster, PA, caught this 5.7lb and a 22.5 inch black drum while fishing on Conquest Beach using clam on a surf rig.

Monday was once again sunny with high winds that had small craft advisories flying.  Tuesday will be fishable and there should be some tog to be caught from both ocean and bay.  Water temperature at the Lightship Buoy has dropped to 49.1 on the hard west wind, but increased to 54.7 in Lewes.

I am sure all hands are looking forward to those eighty degree temperatures promised for this week.  I have plans to fish the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal on Thursday.  High tide is around noon so I will get on the water then and fish the top of the incoming and all of the outgoing.  I don’t expect to catch a four-fish limit, even with the half-inch decrease in minimum size.  Live minnows will be my prime bait along with Gulp! on a bucktail.  The possibility of connecting with a trout is always there, however high the odds.

This is all dependent on my 1996 Merc starting on Wednesday.  This is not something I count on and when it happens there is cause for great rejoicing.  Wish me luck!

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report.
