WGMD Fishing Report 5-4-19

Depending on where you were, Friday was either warm and sunny or cold and foggy.  I was in the cold and fog on Broadkill Beach.  There were more surf fishermen there than I have seen since the days of tiderunner trout.  Black drum were the draw this time and while many had good luck, I had none.  Sand fleas seem to be the best bait and I was using fresh clam.

Dan’s Tackle Box recorded Mark Lucas with three black drum to 20 pounds.  Sporto Gray had two to 21 pounds.  Ron Capone had one black drum and Scott Aiken and two friends had four drum all from Broadkill Beach.  As I was airing up my tires the angler next to me said he fished from 7:00 AM until 6:00 PM to catch and release four black drum on sand fleas.  Dan’s also reported that Leroy caught two big blues from the fishing pier at Cape Henlopen State Park.

Amanda at Lewes Harbour Marina said the Katydid returned with a catch of tog from ocean structure.
