WGMD Fishing Report 6-4-18

Sunday was just a tad breezy and a bit damp around the edges so no one that I know about went fishing.

Once we get back to decent weather the black drum bite should still be good in Delaware Bay.  If you don’t have a boat you can catch drum from the beach at Broadkill and we have heard of a few caught from Bowers Beach.  Clams are the most popular bait, but hard blue claw crabs or peelers will also attract the drum and seem to be less appealing to rays, skates and sharks.

It is possible that the hard northeast wind may push bunker and big rockfish towards the beach.  If so, soaking clams or bunker chunks in the surf may bring the desired result.  The rock could also be back in Indian River Inlet where night time fishing with black or purple plugs had been fair before the storm.

Flounder fishing has been pretty poor and I am afraid it won’t improve much over the summer.  Summer flounder have not had a good reproduction cycle for several years and we are fishing on what’s left.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report.
