WGMD Fishing Report 7-17-18

Monday was another beautiful summer day and the fishing was decent.  Thunderstorms are scheduled to roll in on Tuesday, so plan your trips accordingly.

Amanda at Lewes Harbour Marina said the Katydid fished the bay in the afternoon and had a good catch of triggers, blues, trout and croaker.  Bob Oswald caught a beautiful 6.02-pound flounder on Gulp! and minnows at Reef Site 10.

The slot rockfish season has been open for two weeks and keepers have been caught from several locations.  Locally, the Savanah Road Bridge has given up some keepers on live eels.  The Ferry Wall and the Outer Wall have also seen some keepers on plugs or live bait fished early or late in the day.  Dan, at Dan’s Tackle, said slot rockfish have been caught out of the Broadkill River on cut bunker.  I would suggest Oyster Rocks as a good location to start.  At Smith Bait in Leipsic Steve said the local tidal rivers and creeks hold slot rock.  While they will take bloodworms or cut bunker, it is a nice juicy piece of peeler crab that really gets their attention.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report.
