John Burbage, Ocean View with new state record 79-pound, 6.4-ounce cobia, caught in the Atlantic Ocean on Aug. 10. The fish was 56½ inches long and had a girth of 28¼ inches.

The wind died out on Tuesday, but small craft advisories were up for the ocean so no one even tried to sail in those six-foot seas.  A call to Lewes Harbour Marina revealed that the bay boats were also off the water.

It’s official, the 79-pound, six ounce cobia caught by John Burbage is the new Delaware State Record.  John caught his big fish by snagging a live menhaden then sight casting the bait to the fish.  It took over an hour to bring the cobia to the boat.  Cobia were added to the list of record fish this year.

Lighthouse View Tackle on the fishing pier at Cape Henlopen State Park told us a few folks fished on the pier and caught some spot.

This 3.5lb flounder was caught by Aidan Rosche while fishing out at the Old Grounds using a chartreuse colored feather rig with live minnows

At Old Inlet Bait and Tackle we heard that the beaches are closed with the exception of Three Rs and it’s only open for walk-on anglers.  A few blues were caught from the inlet on Monday, but they did not have any reports from Tuesday.

It will be awhile before we can get back out on the water and no one knows what we will find.
