MS/NBC is the op-ed page for NBC/Comcast-Universal, the media behemoth that provides and produces content, and the cable delivery system for same, all over North America. The hard-left cable channel started as a joint venture between Microsoft and the National Broadcasting Corporation in the summer of 1996 and is available in about 81% of all households that have a TV in this country, but availability and usage aren’t the same thing, as its consistently low ratings confirm. One might conclude that Gen. David Sarnoff would be rolling over in his grave, but, I digress.
This also-ran network calls itself the place for politics and advises viewers to lean forward. Even the most dedicated fan of FDR, Harry Truman, JFK and LBJ would admit that those phrases would more accurately be the place for leftist politics and lean left. If an observer thinks their outlook is middle-of-the-road, (as Dan Rather once described The New York Times) that same observer is likely to call Barack Obama a conservative. Rachel Maddow, their prime-time heroine of all things left, salivated on-air just before the Ides of March over a few purloined pages of the president’s 2005 1040 form. She then attempted C.P.R. on her Nielsens by drawing out a long and would-be dramatic tease about the purloined tax info. All it revealed was that Donald Trump made a ton of money 12 years ago and paid a higher effective tax rate than Obama, Buffet and most other ga-zillionaires ever did. By now, her ratings have certainly returned to the intensive care wing.
So it came as an obvious and palpable shock to Morning Joe co-anchor Mika Brzezinski Wednesday when MS/NBC analyst and former Obama administration Pentagon official doctor (Brzezinski’s emphasis) Evelyn Farkas, revealed that she had told outgoing White House officials and Capitol Hill Democrats to acquire as much intelligence as they could on Trump before his team officially took office, lest it be suppressed afterwards. “That’s why there’s so much leaking,” she concluded. The daughter of Jimmy Carter’s national security advisor was so taken aback by Farkas’s admission she barely knew what to say, ending the segment with a nervous, “There’s a lot going on today.” During the segment, which immediately followed some on-air prevarications by Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Brzezinski’s expression of surprise at Farkas’s admission was captured, no doubt unintentionally, by a two-shot which lasted about 3 seconds before somebody in the control room realized what the hell was going on and went back to a full-screen of the good doctor, thus saving the anchor some on-camera discomfiture.
The bottom line is obvious and, sadly, predictable. On MS/NBC’s website on Thursday morning, there’s no mention of it, or of the fact that Farkas left her DoD post in 2015 for the Atlantic Council think tank. That means she was “urging” this action be taken while she was no longer employed by the Pentagon. Further investigation, obviously, is warranted. Farkas Tweeted an anemic “explanation” more than 12 hours after her TV appearance, one which will be accepted and embraced by the left-wing media, but won’t be by anybody else. The professional left, of course, will circle their wagons and bellow that there’s no comparison to Watergate when a Democrat administration wiretaps American citizens for political advantage. Simply put, whatever the left does is acceptable, minor, irrelevant, meaningless. Obviously, they’re going to try to downplay and obfuscate this, but if there was ever a ‘smoking gun’, this is it. One can only hope that congressional Republicans have the backbone to pursue this crime the same way Democrats pursued Ehrlichman, Haldeman, Mitchell, McCord and Liddy.
