18-Year-Old Sentenced to Life Plus 60 Years Following First-Degree Murder Conviction
An 18-year-old from Salisbury, Mykel Elliott, was sentenced to life plus 60 years in prison by the Wicomico County Circuit Court after being convicted of first-degree murder and related charges. He was sentenced today, Thursday, March 12th. Prosecutors said Elliott and others targeted victims in Salisbury in April 2023 during a gang-related dispute linked to a social media video. One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a shooting outside a local restaurant. Authorities say one co-defendant has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, and another was convicted as an accessory after the fact.

On March 12, 2026, Mykel Elliott, now 18 years of age, of Salisbury, Maryland was sentenced by the
Honorable Judge K. Beckstead, Chief Judge of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County, to LIFE plus 60 years of incarceration for First Degree Murder and related charges. Elliott was previously convicted by a Wicomico County jury of First Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder, two counts of Conspiracy- First Degree Murder, Gang Participation and related offenses following a five-day jury trial in October, 2025.
During the late evening hours of April 15, 2023, Mykel Elliott and others sought out the location of the victims near downtown Salisbury, bent on revenge for a video posted earlier that evening which was perceived by Elliott and his associates as a challenge in an ongoing gang feud. Elliott and others located the victims at Pizza City early on the morning of April 16th, shooting one victim to death and shooting another surviving victim multiple times. One other defendant has pleaded guilty to First Degree Murder and one individual has been convicted of being an Accessory After the Fact.
Wicomico County Stateās Attorney (SA) Jamie L. Dykes commented, āThis sentence sends an unmistakable message to those who would engage in this horrific violence that such activity will not be tolerated in Wicomico County. Any person, young or old, who glorifies the gang life should be put on notice that my Office will tirelessly pursue the prosecution of these crimes with all the tools at its disposal. We urge the Maryland General Assembly, who have enacted legislation in recent years which hampers prosecutorsā efforts to do so, to make themselves familiar with the everyday realities we face in protecting the public safety.ā
SA Dykes commended the members of the Maryland State Police (MSP) Homicide Unit and the Salisbury Police Department (SPD) for their diligent investigation of these tragic events. She specifically commended the lead investigators, Sergeant Wildman (MSP Homicide Unit) and Detective Glynn (SPD) for their hard work and persistence, and Detective Doyle (SPD) for his efforts throughout the investigation and trial. SA Dykes also commended the lead prosecutor in the case, Deputy Stateās Attorney D. Scott Messersmith, for his efforts.
