At approximately 9:29 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, Wilmington Police received a 9-1-1 call regarding an in-progress domestic dispute in the 2400 block of North Market Street. Responding officers attempted to make contact with the male suspect involved in the domestic incident, who was identified as 31-year-old Bernard Goodwyn of Smyrna.

As the officers made entry into the apartment, Goodwyn opened fire on the officers with a firearm. Three Wilmington Police officers were struck by gunfire.

The three injured officers were transported to the hospital in stable condition; one of the officers has been treated and released. Two of the officers have served the department since 2014, and one of the officers has served since 2018.
