38th District Representative Ron Gray has announced that he will not be seeking re-election when his term ends. He plans to retire in November. He says it’s been an honor to serve the citizens of the 38th District. During his 14 years as a state legislator, he has been an outspoken proponent for resources to dredge the Inland Bays to keep boating channels navigable and facilitating health water flow throughout the region. He’s also co-sponsored several recent pieces of legislation including:Ā

  • HS 1 for HB 284 — This bipartisan measure seeks to double the childcare and dependent care expense tax credit for resident lower-income households.
  • SB 232 — This bill seeks to raise the existing crime of criminal mischief to a class F felony when the crime results in damage to an emergency vehicle exceeding $5,000 or the vehicle is temporarily knocked out of service. The proposal has passed the Senate and is pending action in a House committee.
  • HB 277 — This bipartisan proposal would codify the Delaware State Police ā€œblue envelopeā€ program, which aims to enhance safety for officers and individuals with disabilities during traffic stops.

Gray first ran for the 38th District in 2012 – winning the seat vacated by Gerald Hocker when he ran for the State Senate.Ā  In the 2012 election he ran against and defeated Democrat Shirley Price (who represented the 38th from 1996-2000).Ā  Gray was challenged by Democrat Meghan Kelly in 2018 and 2020 – he won both elections.Ā Ā

Gray joins several other lawmakers who have announced they will not run for re-election – including Representatives Dave Lawson (15th District), Charles Postles (33rd District) and Rich Collins (41st District).Ā Ā
