Delaware Governor John Carney announcing a $50,000 grant yesterday to support basic needs closets in schools across the state. The funds will help high-needs schools stock up on clothing, school supplies, hygiene products and other basic needs to help struggling students.

The grant is supplied by Highmark Delaware, and will be paid in two installments: one to help resupply closets for the remainder of the school year, and another over the summer to help prepare for Fall. The basic needs closets were launched in 45 schools in Delaware last August to help students with school supplies so they can participate in class better and to ease the burden on teachers who use their own money to produce supplies.
