Sussex County Council Bid Farewell to Retiring Airport Manager & Consider Lodging Tax

The Sussex County Council is back Tuesday morning after a week off. They will recognize Airport Manager Jim Hickin who is retiring at the end of this month. Eric Littleton of Bridgeville is taking the controls at the Delaware Coastal Airport and Business Park in Georgetown and has been working with Hickin since July.

The County will also discuss and possibly introduce a proposed ordinance that will impose a local lodging tax of no more than 3% for any room in a hotel, motel or tourist home on the unincorporated areas of Sussex County.

There will be a public hearing at 10:30am on an ordinance to amend the county code in Chapter 115 on the establishing an administrative approval process for the use o a manufactured home-type structure for a business, commercial or industrial use, for garage/studio apartment.

There are two change of zone public hearings in the afternoon session beginning at 1:30pm. CZ No 1890 – W&B Hudson Family, LTD – for 37 acres of property on the south side of Route 9 east of Route 5 in Harbeson to be rezoned from AR-1 and MR Residential to C-3 Heavy Commercial.

CZ No 1899 for less than an acre of land zoned AR-1 and MR Residential to be rezoned to a B-2 business community district. This property is on the east side of Route 5 just south of Route 9 in Harbeson.
