The weather was anything but fishable on Friday, but Sidney McBroom didn’t let that stop him from catching a 53-pound blue catfish out of the Nanticoke River. If approved by DNREC, this fish will replace a 48-pound, 3.2-ounce state record blue cat caught by James Lord last year. Sidney checked his trophy catch in at Lewes Harbour Marina. That is the same place where Tommy Hughes checked in with his 31-inch rockfish that he caught near Indian River Inlet.

Breakwater Tackle on the fishing pier at Cape Henlopen State Park had the only other fishing report on Friday. They said keeper flounder were caught along with a few spot and croaker. The flounder took minnows while the spot and croaker took bloodworms or Fishbites.

I don’t expect to have any fishing reports on Saturday or Sunday as storm warnings will be posted for seas to nine feet and heavy rain.
