Candidate’s announcement for US House becomes first controversy of campaign

Republican Ed Brandt is seeking Delaware’s GOP nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives, but reports say his announcement may violate federal policy.

Brandt currently serves as the U.S. Deputy Chief of Chaplains for the Army National Guard and鈥攁ccording to the News-Journal鈥擠efense Department rules bar active military personnel from politically partisan comments.

There’s been no statement from Brandt鈥檚 campaign鈥攂ut the state Republican Party says they’ve been told that Brandt has cleared everything with his superiors and has been relieved of his military responsibilities.
