DE Unemployment Drops; DE Labor Force at Lowest Rate Since 1976


Delaware’s unemployment rate has dropped from 3.9% in November to 3.7% in December and remains lower than the national unemployment rate of 4.1% in December. However in Sussex County unemployment increased from November to December from 3.1% to 3.2%.

According to the Department of Labor, Delaware’s labor force fell to 502,700 – a 14-consecutive month decline. That puts Delaware’s labor force participation rate in December at 59% to end 2024 with the lowest rate since record keeping began in 1976.

The sectors with the highest over-the-year job change from December 2023 to December 2024 – Government, Construction, Professional & Business Services and Private Education and Health.
