Several pictures posted to iDewey.com‘s Facebook page show a large amount of trash on the beach between Norfolk and St. Lawrence Streets in Rehoboth Beach. City officials tell the Talk of Delmarva that the resulting mess was from a large group of college students on the beach on Wednesday. The police addressed several concerns with the group – including how vehicles were parked in the area, but no citations were issued. The amount of trash left behind on the beach was not discovered until after the group left – city staff cleaned the beach the following morning.
Communications Manager Lynne Coan said in an email to the Talk of Delmarva, “This disrespect for our community and the natural beauty of our beach is extremely disappointing. We welcome visitors from all over to the Nation’s Summer Capital and kindly ask that our visitors respect the beach and other visitors and pick up their trash and belongings when they leave.”
