The FAIR Leave Act Introduced Aiming to Expand Family Leave for Married Workers
May 14, 2025/
Married couples who work for the same employer are often required to split a single 12-week leave under the current Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) rules, limiting their ability to care for family or bond with a new child. Newly introduced legislation–the FAIR Leave Act– seeks to change that by ensuring each spouse receives their own 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave. This bipartisan legislation introduced today by Congresswoman Sarah McBride of Delaware alongside Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, and Democrat Haley Stevens of Michigan, aims to provide families with greater flexibility during major life events such as serious illness, caregiving, or the arrival of a child.
