Lisa Blunt Rochester Questions FAA Representative in Senate Commitee Hearing Regarding Aviation-Related issues


Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester questioned FAA officials during today’s Senate Commerce Committee hearing on aviation safety, air traffic, and technology, held one year after the FAA Reauthorization.

She added that other significant variables that drive this crisis, such as the lack of a robust and well-supported aviation workforce. Senator Blunt Rochester asked Franklin McIntosh, deputy chief of the FAA’s Air Traffic Organization, about workforce planning and skills assessment, and he says the plan is to review the air traffic controls assessment and improve the academy success rate.

 
 

Today, Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester questioned representatives of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) during the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation’s full committee hearing titled FAA Reauthorization One Year Later: Aviation Safety, Air Traffic, and Next Generation Technology. During her line of questioning, Blunt Rochester focused on the impact that workforce issues at our airports are having on American travelers, including at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. She asked Franklin McIntosh, deputy chief of the FAA’s Air Traffic Organization, about workforce planning which includes the recruitment process and air traffic controls assessment….

He says the air traffic skills assessment basically judges a candidate’s cognitive skills and ability to multitask as an air traffic controller.
