Dover Man Charged with Aggravated Menacing after Incident Friday Afternoon

A Dover man has been arrested after an incident Friday afternoon at the Rodney Village Shopping Center in Dover. Delaware State Police were called for a report of an assault and found an intoxicated man, identified as 74 year old Peter Reidy, who had been sprayed with pepper spray. Police learned Reidy was disorderly in the parking lot and aggressively approached the male victim as he got out of his vehicle with a screwdriver. A woman and 2 children were still in the vehicle – the woman sprayed Reidy with the pepper spray as he grabbed the man. The victim was not injured. Reidy was taken to an area hospital and after his release from the hospital, Reidy was taken to Troop 3 and charged with the crimes listed below:

  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Aggravated Menacing (Felony)
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child – 2 counts
  • Offensive Touching
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Public Intoxication

Reidy was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $47,201 secured bond.
