Wilmington Man Arrested for DUI after Leading Dewey Beach Police on Chase

A Dewey Beach motorcycle officer on patrol Friday night around 9:30 spotted an Acura SUV passing stopped vehicles on in the area of New Orleans Street and Coastal Highway. The driver – identified as 29 year old Louis Fedele of Wilmington – also failed to stop at stop sign. When the officer attempted a traffic stop Fedele sped off at a high rate of speed – driving on the shoulder of Coastal Highway at speeds estimated at over 60mph in a 25mph zone. Fedele ran a red light and narrowly missed striking three pedestrians crossing the road and was finally stopped near the Indian River Inlet Bridge and arrested. Fedele admitted to drinking alcohol prior to driving. He is charged with the following offenses:
- (3 Counts) Reckless Endangerment First Degree (Creating a Substantial Risk of Death to Another)
- Disregarding a Police Officer Signal
- Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol
- Aggressive Driving
- Numerous related traffic violations
