$1 Million Federal Grant Awarded for Pirate’s Wharf Development Phase II
Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano has announced that the National Park Service, through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), has awarded $1,010,500 in federal funding to support Phase II of the Pirate’s Wharf Park Development Project in Quantico, Maryland. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources will administer the grant with Wicomico County as the subrecipient. The total project cost is estimated at $2,021,000, with federal funds covering half. Work under this phase is scheduled to be completed by September 30, 2028. County Executive Julie Giordano refers to Pirate’s Wharf as the newest cornerstone of their community’s vision for outdoor recreation, environmental stewardship, and tourism. She says this federal investment will enable expanded access, enhanced safety, and new amenities for families, sportsmen, and visitors for generations to come. Highlights of the project include construction of a boat ramp, roadway, and parking lot as well as a new fishing pier and observation deck, a kayak launch to support water recreation, shoreline protection and site work to safeguard the area’s natural resources, and development of new trails to improve park connectivity.
