Sussex County Kitchen Incubator To Launch Senior Meal Program
This October, the Sussex County Kitchen Incubator will launch the Feeding Every Delawarean program in partnership with Sussex County Senior Services (CHEER). The initiative will connect local food entrepreneurs with CHEER to prepare meals that will be delivered to senior centers across the county. Meals will be produced by Incubator members—small-scale food businesses that use the county’s commercial kitchen—and provided to CHEER at cost. CHEER will then handle distribution. The program is funded through a $12,500 Delaware Grocery Initiative grant, which supports efforts to eliminate “food deserts,” or communities with limited access to affordable, healthy food. Sussex County Economic Development Director Andrew D. Harton, who created the program and secured the grant, said the partnership combines the talents of local culinary entrepreneurs with CHEER’s reach– “…like pairing two great, complementary dishes together for one satisfying meal.” For more information on the Kitchen Incubator and the Feeding Every Delawarean (FED) program, visit www.sussexkitchende.com.
