UPDATE: Two Injured in Crash Involving Multiple Vehicles in Greenwood Area
Two women have been hospitalized after a crash involving multiple vehicles in the Greenwood area this morning.
Delaware State Police tell the Talk of Delmarva that this morning shortly after 8:00, a Kenworth tractor-trailer was traveling southbound on Shawnee Road approaching Mennonite School Road. A BMW X3 and a Toyota Highlander were also heading southbound on Shawnee Road, stopped and waiting for northbound traffic to clear before making an eastbound turn onto Mennonite School Road.
At the same time, another vehicle–a Ford Flex– was traveling northbound on Shawnee Road approaching Mennonite School Road. According to State Police, Kenworth failed to slow down for the stopped traffic and struck the BMW which in turn struck the Toyota. After the collision, the BMW was pushed into the northbound lane and was struck by the Ford.
The driver of the BMW, a 36-year-old woman from Greenwood, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota, a 32-year-old woman from Harrington, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford, a 63-year-old man from Salisbury, was not injured. The driver of the Kenworth, an 18-year-old man from Lincoln, was not injured. He was cited for inattentive driving and failure to have insurance identification in possession.
