Low Humidity and Gusty Winds Create Elevated Fire Risk Across the Region

Forecasters are warning the public about an elevated risk of fire spread today across Delaware, the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and eastern Pennsylvania, according to the National Weather Service. Dry northwest winds of 10 to 15 miles per hour, with gusts up to 30, and low humidity levels between 30 and 40 percent could cause any fires that start to spread quickly and become hard to control. Conditions are expected to improve late in the afternoon as humidity rises and winds decrease. Officials strongly discourage outdoor burning and urge people to properly extinguish cigarettes and other potential ignition sources.
