Delmar, MD Man Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison for Sexual Abuse of a Minor

UPDATED – 03/13/26 – A Delmar, MD, man has been sentenced for the sexual abuse of a minor. A Wicomico County jury found 51 year old Derrick Henderson guilty of sexual abuse of a minor, attempted 2nd degree rape, attempted 4th degree sexual offense and sexual solicitation of a minor last December – and on Thursday, March 12th, Circuit Court Judge Kathleen Beckstead sentenced Henderson to 40 years in prison. If he is released from prison he will be under lifetime sexual offender supervision and be required to register as a Tier III sex offender for life.

Wicomico County State’s Attorney (SA) Jamie L. Dykes said, “The survivor in this case displayed immense courage in disclosing the sexual abuse, and in testifying at trial. I hope the Court’s powerful sentence in this case has afforded this survivor some degree of peace.”
SA Jamie L. Dykes commended Detective G. Wells of the Salisbury Police Department, who was the lead investigator, and members of the Wicomico County Child Advocacy Center for their work in the investigation. SA Dykes also commended Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Calabrese, who prosecuted the case and advocated for justice.

ORIGINAL STORY – 12/05/25 – A Wicomico County jury has convicted a Delmar, MD man after a two-day trial. The jury found 51 year old Derrick Henderson guilty of 2 counts of sexual abuse of a minor, 2nd degree attempted rape, 4th degree attempted sexual offense and sexual solicitation of a minor.
Sentencing has been deferred by Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of Wicomico County Kathleen Beckstead pending a pre-sentence investigation and mental health assessment. Henderson will remain in custody pending sentencing.
Court records show that is 2024, Henderson sexually abused a minor in his household. At the time, Henderson was on probation for a separate criminal conviction, and had a major prior criminal record. No further details will be released.
