Dewey Beach officials are calling on residents to contact state representatives to be sure federal funding that has already been approved for work in the town is released. Town officials say federal funding for a flood mitigation project on Read Avenue was approved through the US Army Corps of Engineers in August of 2024, but is now being withheld, which puts this critical project on hold.
Dewey Beach is a low-lying coastal town and vulnerable to flooding, storm surge and future storm events for as long as this funding delay continues.
