CDC Investigating Salmonella Outbreak from Raw Oysters – 3 Sickened on Delmarva

The Centers for Disease Control, public health and other officials in several states are investigating reports of people in multiple states being sickened with Salmonella after eating raw oysters. The federal agencies are working to determine if a common source of oysters can be identified, but say that raw oysters can be contaminated with germs at any time of year.
Reports of illness started on dates ranging from June 21 of this year to November 28 – with 64 people reporting illnesses as of December 23rd. Twenty people have been hospitalized – and no deaths have been reported.
Two Delawareans and 1 Marylander are included in those who reported illness from eating raw oysters.
