UPDATE: Vehicle Crash and Water Rescue in Oak Orchard Area and Indian River Bay

A 23-year-old Millsboro man was charged with driving under the influence following a late-night crash on Oak Orchard Road on December 31st. Delaware State Police say the driver passed another vehicle, ran a stop sign at River Road, and drove over an embankment before overturning into the Indian River Bay just before midnight. The driver was assisted from the vehicle by fire crews and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Troopers reported signs of impairment and obtained a blood search warrant.

On December 31, 2025, at approximately 11:55 p.m., troopers were dispatched to Oak Orchard Road, south of River Road, in Millsboro, for a report of a crash. The preliminary investigation revealed a Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Oak Orchard Road, approaching River Road. The Civic drove over the center double yellow line and passed another vehicle which was also traveling southbound on Oak Orchard Road. The Civic continued southbound, ran the stop sign at River Road, drove over an embankment, and landed upside-down in the Indian River Bay.

The driver of the Civic, a 23-year-old man from Millsboro, Delaware, was assisted from the Civic with help from the fire department. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers observed several signs of impairment from the driver and obtained a blood search warrant.
The driver was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol in addition to related traffic offenses.

Emergency crews responded to a water rescue late New Year’s Eve after a vehicle crashed into the Indian River Bay in Millsboro. The call came in just before midnight on Wednesday at the end of Oak Orchard Road. Authorities say a vehicle traveling south failed to stop at the end of the roadway, went through a private drive area, struck a bulkhead and pilings, and overturned into the water. Fire companies from Indian River, Dagsboro, and Millsboro, along with Sussex County paramedics and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, responded–along with and the Delaware State Police – Aviation Unit – Trooper #2. Crews wearing water rescue gear extricated the occupant from the vehicle and brought them safely back to shore. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The vehicle, identified as a Honda Civic, was later removed from the bay by a towing company using a rotator truck. Delaware State Fire Police handled traffic control, and Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.
