Hurlock Man Arrested for Setting Multiple Fires During Christmas Eve Domestic Dispute

In Dorchester County, Deputy State Fire Marshals have arrested a Hurlock man after determining he intentionally set multiple fires inside a home during an argument and physical altercation with his mother on Christmas Eve. Authorities say Matthew B. Haigis set several fires while his mother was still inside the residence on Skinners Run Road. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, limiting damage to under $1,000. Following an investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Haigis was arrested with assistance from Maryland State Police and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. He is being held without bond at the Dorchester County Detention Center. Officials say Haigis is also wanted in Pennsylvania on multiple outstanding warrants and will be extradited. Haigis faces multiple charges, including first-degree arson, malicious burning, reckless endangerment, and attempted murder related to the assault on his mother.
