WINTER STORM: Ocean City Under Winter Storm Warning; Significant Snow, Ice, and Dangerous Travel Expected

The Town of Ocean City is now under a Winter Storm Warning, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, Virginia. A major winter storm is expected to impact the area beginning Saturday evening, with hazardous conditions continuing through Sunday night into early Monday morning.

Forecasts indicate precipitation will begin as snow Saturday evening, intensify overnight, then transition to sleet and freezing rain, and rain on Sunday. Temperatures will transition from the 20s to the high 30s, allowing snow and ice to accumulate and remain on all surfaces. Snow and sleet accumulations of 6 inches are possible in Ocean City, with the possibility of ice accumulation becoming the primary concern as the storm progresses.

The National Weather Service warns that travel may become extremely dangerous or nearly impossible, particularly on Sunday, due to icy roadways and bridges. Strong winds following the storm may further increase the risk of downed trees and power outages, with impacts potentially lingering into next week as bitterly cold temperatures slow melting.

The Town of Ocean City urges residents, businesses, and visitors to take this storm seriously and prepare now.
