WINTER STORM: Dorchester County State of Emergency LIFTED

UPDATED – 01/26/26The State of Emergency, proclaimed by Dorchester County, has been lifted as of 6:00PM tonight, January 26, 2026.

=============================================

ORIGINAL STORY – 01/25/26 – Effective 3:00 AM Sunday, January 25, 2026, and until further notice, all roads within Dorchester County are CLOSED to NON-ESSENTIAL TRAVEL.

This action is being taken due to deteriorated road conditions associated with the winter storm and the ongoing Dorchester County State of Emergency.

➡️ Non-essential travel does not include sightseeing, checking road conditions, testing your four-wheel drive, or “I just wanted to see what it looks like.”

? AUTHORITY & ENFORCEMENT
Pursuant to Maryland law and the locally declared State of Emergency, it authorizes the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office to restrict travel and enforce snow emergency provisions.

? WHAT THIS MEANS
  • Vehicles traveling during the closure may be stopped and cited
  • If you are on the road and become stuck, disabled, or leave the roadway, the vehicle operator will be cited
  • The vehicle will be towed and impounded
  • Towing and storage fees are the responsibility of the vehicle owner and must be paid prior to the vehicle being released (but not before roadways are reopened)
? We don’t enjoy doing this, but vehicles on the road slow snow removal, block emergency response, and turn first responders into tow truck drivers and roadside rescuers. Nobody wins that game.

? BOTTOM LINE
If you’ve already got what you need, stay home. If you don’t, you should’ve gone earlier. The safest place to be during this storm is off the roadway.

? Updates will be provided as conditions change.
Stay safe, Dorchester County — let’s all keep this boring.
