Winter Storm on Delmarva: Assessing the Aftermath

The first major winter storm of the season has passed leaving behind snow and ice which in many places on Delmarva accumulated several inches. Mark Crampton with the Maryland State Highway Administration told the Talk of Delmarva’s Mike Bradley show about the extent in which the storm affected utilities and trees across Maryland’s Eastern Shore…

He talked about how the lower shore did not get nearly as much snow as initially thought, and that the area received a lot more rain than in other areas, which allowed crews to more easily clear the roads. He adds that they are working to clear road shoulders, intersection areas, and ramps, though many of the roads in the lower shore counties are in pretty good shape.

Although Delmarva saw quite a bit of snow and sleet from the first major winter storm of the season, Neil Baker–Director of Regional Electric Operations for Delmarva Power told the Talk of Delmarva’s Mike Bradley show that the despite the weather conditions throughout the Delmarva service territory, they were pleased with how the situation played out…

He added that although getting from point A to point B was a challenge, crews out in the field did a great job of safely carrying out their efforts.

DelDOT spokesman CR McLeod was also on the Talk of Delmarva’s Mike Bradley program to discuss how Delaware fared during Sunday’s winter storm…

He adds that roads are continuing to improve. He says they were able to make headway on both primary and secondary roads yesterday. Today, plows are still on the roads, so drivers heading out should be mindful to that and give them plenty of space to work.
