UPDATE: January DUI Checkpoint Enforcement in Sussex County–Postponed
UPDATE: The Delaware Office of Highway Safety (OHS), Delaware State Police (DSP), and local law enforcement agencies have postponed a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Checkpoint originally scheduled for Friday, January 30th in Sussex County. Due to another potential winter storm in the forecast for the weekend of the 30th and current condition of the roadways in Sussex County, the scheduled DUI checkpoint has been postponed. According to the OHS, the decision was made to prioritize the safety of both law enforcement officers and motorists. Information regarding a rescheduled date will be shared at a later time. OHS and its law enforcement partners remain committed to enforcing impaired driving laws and protecting the safety of all Delaware road users.

The Delaware Office of Highway Safety (OHS), Delaware State Police, and local law enforcement agencies are partnering to conduct a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Checkpoint this Friday, January 30th in Sussex County. The DUI checkpoint is part of Delaware’s “Driver Sober. Arrive Alive” campaign and is designed to identify and remove impaired drivers off Delaware roadways, while reinforcing that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal. According to the Delaware OHS, impaired driving continues to be a leading factor in serious and fatal crashes in Delaware. Jason Coleman, Traffic Safety Program Manager for the Office of Highway Safety says the goal is to prevent tragedies before they occur–adding that DUI checkpoints increase awareness, discourage impaired driving, and support law enforcement partners in keeping Delaware’s roadways safe. Motorists are reminded to plan ahead, designate a sober driver, or arrange a safe ride home, and to never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
