West Side firefighters were called for a residential structure fire Saturday afternoon just before 2pm. Crews arriving at the Hickman Lane home in Nanticoke found fire in a two story, wood framed home. Multiple fire companies were called to assist or provide backup.

Maryland State Fire Marshal investigators say the fire was accidental – caused by an electrical failure in an exterior water pump house attached to the residence. Firefighters were on the scene for over 2 1/2 hours.

Officials say three dogs and a cat died in the fire. The occupant of the home is being assisted by family members.

Damage is estimated at $185,000.
