UPDATED: Additional Cats Rescued from Delmar Animal Cruelty Investigation

UPDATE – 03/09/26 – An update on the cats rescued from the Delmar Cat Sanctuary. On February 25th over 100 cats were rescued, but officials with Humane World for Animals returned with local authorities to humanely trap the remaining cats that had run during the activity in February. They have rescued over 40 additional cats – bringing the total to over 150 cats rescued from the property and transported to safety. Veterinary care of the cats show that most suffer from upper respiratory infections, many were severely dehydrated and suffering from dental disease. Some also were emaciated and in need of treatment for fleas and ear mites. Several required hospitalization for round-the-clock intensive care. Many of the cats are showing improvement and information on placement will be shared when the cats are ready to move into their next chapter, which will likely be in several months for most of the cats.

On Wednesday, law enforcement executed search and seizure warrants on Landing Lane in Delmar, Maryland after an investigation into animal cruelty. Detectives with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office along with Salisbury Police Animal Control, Wicomico County Humane Society and Humane World for Animals received information in November of last year regarding suspected cat sanctuary where animals were allegedly being neglected and subjected to inhumane conditions.

Officials on Wednesday found numerous cats outside in freezing temperatures and others in hazardous and unsanitary sheds and outbuildings. They also found multiple deceased cats and skeletal remains on the property. Over 100 cats have been recovered and taken for emergency veterinarian care and evaluation by Humane World for Animals.

Wicomico Sheriff’s officials say the investigation is ongoing and ask anyone with information to contact them at 410-548-4891.
