Kent County Sheriff’s Office Scam Alert

The Sheriff’s Office of Kent County, DE, is alerting you to a scam that is targeting residents. The caller, posing as a Kent County Sheriff’s officer, advises you that you missed a court date and they are demanding that you pay preemptive bail or be imprisoned immediately. Officials say that the call is received from a random cell phone number, but has also spoofed the Sheriff’s Office number and in some cases the caller will try to use an official rank or title and can become very verbally abusive. If you receive a all or voicemail like this – hang up – and do not attempt to call them back.

The Sheriff’s Office will never solicit payment for fines/bond/bail over the phone.

You can call the Sheriff’s Office at 302-736-2161 to report the incident.
