UPDATE: Delmarva Discovery Museum to Reopen its Doors Following Outpouring of Community Support

UPDATE: After an outpouring of community support, the Delmarva Discovery Museum in Pocomoke City will officially reopen its doors on Memorial Weekend. In just a matter of days, donors, families, businesses, and supporters came together to help the museum in its efforts to reach the critical emergency fundraising goal of $100,000. Museum directors are calling on families and visitors, educators and school partners, local businesses and community leaders, donors, members, and volunteers to play an active role in its future, not just through continued financial support, but also by sharing ideas for programming and exhibits, collaboration, partnerships, events, and revenue opportunities that will strengthen their long-term sustainability and enhance the museum’s experience.

Original Post:

The Delmarva Discovery Museum will be closing its doors for good this Friday, March 20th. The museum says ongoing financial challenges have made it increasingly difficult to maintain operations at a sustainable level. Museum officials expressed gratitude for years of community support, which helped provide educational programs, exhibits, and care for animals enjoyed by thousands of visitors. They add that efforts are underway to place all animals in safe, accredited facilities.

It is with heavy hearts that the Delmarva Discovery Museum’s Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to close the museum on Friday afternoon, March 20, 2026.
This decision follows ongoing financial challenges that have made it increasingly difficult to sustain operations at an acceptable level into the foreseeable future. We know this news will be disappointing to many who care deeply about the museum and its role in our community.
We are incredibly grateful for the support that our community has shown over the years. That support has helped us bring educational programs, exhibits, and our beloved animals to many thousands of visitors, students, and families throughout the region.
We want to reassure everyone that the well-being of our animals – especially Mac and Tuck, our beloved river otters – remains our highest priority. Our staff is working closely with accredited aquariums, wildlife centers, and other qualified institutions to ensure that every animal in our care is placed in a safe, professional environment where they will continue to receive excellent care.
Thank you for supporting us over the years and for caring so deeply about this special place.
With sincere appreciation,
Christy Gordon
