Bivalve Garage Fire Thursday – Accidental

Firefighters from the Westside Volunteer Fire Department were called for a structure fire on Tyaskin Nanticoke Road in Bivalve, MD, Thursday afternoon just before 4:30. Firefighters found a garage on fire – it was brought under control in about 30 minutes.

State Fire Marshal investigators say the fire began in the inside of the structure and was accidental due to a failure of a lithium ion battery.

The Maryland Department of the Environment was contacted to collect the remains of the failed battery – as well as another battery damaged in the fire.

Damage is estimated at $25,000.
