Delaware Legislation Introduced Addressing School Safety, Raising Penalties for Assaults on Educators
March 26, 2026/
Delaware educators say school safety is a major factor in whether they remain in the profession. In response, lawmakers have introduced legislation aimed at strengthening protections for teachers and school staff. The measure elevates cases where an educator is intentionally or recklessly injured to a charge of second-degree assault. The bill defines an educator broadly, including employees, contractors, and subcontractors at both public and private schools. It applies to incidents that occur on school property or during school-sponsored events. The legislation–House Bill 331– is titled the “We’ve Got Your Back Act.” A Committee hearing on the bill takes place within twelve legislative days.
