Sussex County Vocational Technical School District Announces the Retirement of Superintendent Dr. Kevin E. Carson

Sussex County Vocational Technical School District Superintendent Dr. Kevin Carson is retiring effective August 31st, 2026, after seven years leading the district. Board President Gary Brittingham said Dr. Carson was key in advancing the district’s mission, improving programs, and helping plan the new Sussex Technical High School. Carson, who previously served the district as assistant superintendent from 1988 to 1997, will continue assisting with the high school construction, set to be completed in September 2027. The district plans to post the superintendent position in the coming weeks.

Sussex County Vocational Technical School District is announcing the retirement of Superintendent Dr. Kevin E. Carson, effective August 31, 2026, following seven years of dedicated leadership and service to the district.
Carson rejoined the Sussex County Vocational Technical School District in 2020, during the height of the Covid epidemic. Dr. Carson had previously served the district as Assistant Superintendent from 1988-1997. He went on to be the superintendent in the Woodbridge, Cape Henlopen and Seaford School Districts.
According to Mr. Gary Brittingham, Board of Education President, “Dr. Carson has played a pivotal role in reinventing and advancing the district’s mission and vision. Under his leadership, the district has undergone significant improvements in curriculum development, organizational structure and financial management, helping to better serve Sussex County students in both the day and adult education programs. Dr. Carson has also been instrumental in securing the funding, planning and development of the new Sussex Technical High School.”
Although retiring from his role as Superintendent, Dr. Carson will continue to support the district assisting with the ongoing construction of the new high school, which is currently scheduled for completion in September 2027.
