DE Senate Committee to Consider Senate Bill 65 to Remove DE from RGGI
Legislation introduced in early March by Senator Gerald Hocker is expected to go before the Senate Environment, Energy & Transportation Committee on Wednesday. Senate Bill 65 would remove Delaware from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). Delaware has exceeded its CO2 reduction goals – cutting emissions by 45%. However in spite of the progress, Delaware still faces high electricity costs and slow economic growth.
The compliance costs from RGGI are passed on to consumers – making our energy costs more expensive. Other states have withdrawn from RGGI – including Pennsylvania and Virginia. Hocker says that withdrawing from RGGI would ease the burden on Delaware working families and small businesses.
The committee meeting is at noon on Wednesday in Dover.
