Eden Man Sentenced to 1 Year for Vehicular Manslaughter

An Eden man has been sentenced for criminally negligent vehicular manslaughter in the Circuit Court for Wicomico County. Judge S. James Sarbanes sentenced 38 year old Jeffrey Garnett on April 24th to the maximum sentence of three years in prison – suspending all but 1 year to be service in the Wicomico County Detention Center. Upon release Garnett will serve 3 years of supervised probation with special conditions.
Court records who that on September 2, 2024 Garnett was driving a pickup that struck a large tree on Cottman Road in Allen. One of his passengers was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries he sustained in the crash. Investigation showed that Garnett was traveling over twice the posted speed limit and never applied his brakes before hitting the tree and that Garnett had consumed alcohol before the collision.
