Code Orange Air Quality Action Day Tuesday for Delaware


Tuesday will be a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Delaware. DNREC officials say a temperature inversion will confine pollutants near the surface early in the day and light to moderate winds will bring those regional pollutants into Delaware. Temperatures in the mid-90s will enhance ozone development. Air Quality indicators are anticipated to be unhealthy for sensitive groups for ozone and low-moderate for particulate matter.

A Code Orange air quality forecast for ozone is a level of pollution that can be unhealthy for sensitive groups, such as young children, the elderly, and those with heart and/or respiratory conditions. Such persons should limit outdoor activities, especially those that require a high level of exertion.聽Any health-related questions should be directed to the Division of Public Health at 302-744-4700. Wednesday will be more of the same with sunny skies enhancing ozone production over southern Delaware.聽 In addition, west-southwesterly winds will continue to carry regional pollutants into the First State. Therefore, despite increasing clouds across northern portions of the state late in the day, AQI levels are anticipated to be high-Moderate for ozone and low-Moderate for PM

Relief on Thursday.聽 Moderate northeasterly winds will transport a clean and cool air mass into the Mid-Atlantic behind a departing cold front. Furthermore, mostly cloudy skies and rain showers will limit ozone formation. As a result, Good AQI levels are anticipated for ozone and PM.
