Memorial Day Weekend Gas Prices Reach Four-Year Highs
As holiday travelers start hitting the road today in record numbers, Memorial Day weekend gas prices are the highest they鈥檝e been in four years. AAA reports that the national average for a gallon of regular is at $4.56, up 3 cents over last week and $1.38 higher than this time last year. Current prices are close to what drivers were paying 4 years ago, when the national average on Memorial Day was $4.61. With gasoline demand on the rise and the prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz, pump prices are likely to remain elevated as the summer travel season gets underway. The Delaware gas price average is $4.34 today, up a penny in the last week and $1.37 higher than one year ago. The South Jersey gas price average is $4.50 today, up a penny in the last week and up $1.48 compared to one year ago. The national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station remained the same at 41 cents and in Delaware the same at 37 cents.聽
