Senator Carozza’s Military, Public Safety, and Education Bills Signed into Law

Several bills sponsored by Senator Mary Beth Carozza have been signed into law in Maryland, impacting education, public safety, workforce recruitment, and community redevelopment on the Eastern Shore. One law expands the Purple Star Program to colleges and universities that support military families and veterans. Another, the Wicomico Highway Pedestrian Safety Act, allows officials to restrict people from standing in roadways and other areas considered dangerous in Wicomico County to improve public safety. Additional legislation expands scholarship eligibility for correctional officers and for students enrolled in certain healthcare and veterinary programs at University of Maryland Eastern Shore to help address workforce shortages.

Lawmakers also approved a measure allowing Maryland students from Delmar who attend high school in Delaware to qualify for the Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship, along with a bill creating temporary property tax credits for redevelopment projects in Wicomico County.

Two other bills create a temporary to-go event permit for certain alcohol license holders in Berlin, Pocomoke City, and Snow Hill, and expand the Worcester County Board of License Commissioners from three members to five.
