Today is Last Day to Change Political Party Affiliation before Delaware’s September Primary Election
Today is the last day that you can change your political party affiliation before the September 15th 2026 Delaware State Primary Election. Only voters registered Democrat or Republican can vote in the Primary Election. The deadline is 11:59pm (if changing online)
You may change your party affiliation:

At ivote.de.gov, or
-
Download, complete, and submit a voter registration application with your new party affiliation from the Department’s website, or
-
At a Department of Elections office to complete a voter registration application to change your party, or
-
Call the Department of Elections office in your county to have a voter registration application mailed to you to complete with your new party affiliation and return to the Department to process.
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO AVR VOTERS:
Voters who were (or will be) automatically registered to vote through the Automatic Voter Registration process at DMV (“AVR Voters”) by the August 22, 2026 primary election voter registration deadline must affiliate with either the Democratic or Republican parties in order to vote in their chosen party’s primary election. AVR Voters may submit a change of party affiliation by doing one of the following:

Return the Response to Automatic Voter Registration form that was included in the mailing that they received following their automatic voter registration with their choice of party affiliation to their county’s election office.

Complete a party change online at https://ivote.de.gov.

Download and print a form to complete from https://de.gov/vrapp

Call or email the office for a form to be mailed or emailed.

Fill out a voter registration form to affiliate with a political party in person at their county DOE Office during business hours.

Complete a form to register with the political party of their choice when they go to vote at an early voting site during the primary election early voting period or their assigned polling place on election day.
The May 29th Party Change deadline does not apply to AVR voters who have not yet selected a political party affiliation.
