Delaware Bill Would Allow Medically Disqualified Drivers to Retain Licenses for Identification
Under current Delaware law, individuals who lose their driving privileges because of a medical condition must surrender their driver’s license and may need to obtain a separate identification card. A bill currently being worked on in the General Assembly would allow them to keep their physical license for identification purposes. They would sign an affidavit acknowledging they are prohibited from operating a motor vehicle. This approach aims to balance public safety with compassion, streamline administrative processes, and eliminate unnecessary costs for affected individuals. House Bill 388 has passed the Delaware House of Representatives and has been assigned to the Senate Environment, Energy & Transportation Committee for consideration.
