Dorchester County Authorities Investigate Report of Police Impersonator


The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of a person allegedly impersonating a police officer during a traffic stop shortly before midnight on June 9th. The victim told deputies they were stopped by a tan Chevrolet Suburban displaying red and blue emergency lights. The driver claimed to be a Cambridge police officer but did not provide official identification. When the victim began calling 911, the suspect instructed them to keep driving and left the area. Deputies later located the unoccupied vehicle. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, about 5-foot-8, wearing a ball cap and dark-colored shirt. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office at 410-228-4141.The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that legitimate law enforcement officers carry official credentials and will identify themselves upon request. If you have concerns about the legitimacy of a traffic stop, call 911 immediately, provide your location, and remain in a safe, well-lit area whenever possible.
